Smokin’ Joe pays visit to Hemsworth boxing club
BOXING fans in Hemsworth were left knocked out after a legend of the sport visited Alpha Boxing Club.
Former heavyweight champion of the world Smokin’ Joe Frazier stopped off at the club, run by head coach Dave Radford and assistant coach Neal Wilson, to sign autographs and have pictures with boxing fans young and old.
Frazier, 67, who lost only four of his 37 professional fights, was involved in some of the best fights in boxing history including the brutal ‘Thrilla in Manila’ meeting with his nemesis Muhammed Ali in October, 1975.
He stopped off in Hemsworth as part of a tour of the United Kingdom and spoke with young members of the Alpha club, giving them coaching tips in the club’s gym.
Frazier’s stop-off in Hemsworth follows other high-profile boxing visits to the Alpha Club, including Roberto Duran and Steve Collins
