Rovers chairman targets Super League place

CLUB chairman Mark Campbell (pictured) believes Championship-winners Featherstone Rovers have a “fantastic opportunity” of obtaining a Super League licence in 2014.

And as part of Rovers’ drive to join RL’s top-flight, he has set a target of doubling the club’s turnover to £2million in 18 months.

He says Featherstone’s annual general meeting in the clubhouse next Monday (7.30pm start) will be “a watershed in the club’s proud history in establishing how ambitious the club really is.”

He is urging people to attend the AGM “when we can all have some input in the make up of the Board as this is just as important as the 17 Daryl Powell picks to pull on the famous shirt and ultimately the club’s future.”

In a letter to supporters, members, shareholders and sponsors, Mr Campbell said: “While we continue to dominate the Championship we are also developing our player pathway for the outstanding talent on our doorstep, already a notable success in Zak Hardaker.

“I see no reason why we can’t continue the success we have all enjoyed with Daryl Powell at the helm.

“However to apply for a licence we must improve as a business off the field to allow the club to keep improving on it.

“The ingredients of this are to be sustainable which includes a target of raising our turnover from £1million to £2m in 18 months.

“In my opinion this is totally realistic with the right expertise and drive on the club’s Board.”

Mr Campbell is delighted Rovers have acquired two new spectator stands from the former Scarborough Football Club. They are set to be rebuilt at their new home at Featherstone this year.

He said: “We have done a great bit of business in securing two modern 1,300 seater stands and with the club owning its own stadium and the 17 acres it sits on, it puts us in a great position and way in front of our near neighbours, not to mention our rivals in the Championship.

“To get these in place we need a commercial partner who shares our drive and ambition, I have a partner who would love to join us in our ‘Destination Super League’ who only works with forward thinking enterprises. We have to show them that we too have a Board who share that drive and ambition.”
