Pontefract player on Leeds United radar
Paul Green.
PONTEFRACT footballer Paul Green hopes to finalise a deal with a new club this week after turning down a new contract to stay with Derby County.
The Republic of Ireland international is available on a free transfer when his current contract ends at the end of next month, but wants his future sorted out as quickly as possible with several clubs interested in taking him, including Leeds United.
The Whites are believed to have competition from Ipswich and Middlesbrough for the 29-year-old former Doncaster Rovers player who has played more than 400 senior games.
Leeds are in the market for several midfielders as they await news on whether Michael Brown will sign a new reduced terms contract and have Adam Clayton on the transfer list.
Green, meanwhile, has not been included in the Irish squad for the forthcoming European Championships, but has been put on standby and will travel to Poland and Ukraine if any of the midfielders picked ahead of him suffers an injury before the tournament.
He made 30 appearances for Derby in the season just finished after recovering from cruciate ligament surgery, but has been reported to want a fresh challenge after four years with the North Midlands club.
