New arrival makes big impression on Blues
Brigg Town 1 Frickley Athletic 4 NEW signing Nialle O'Rafferty wasted no time in opening his Frickley account with a goal after 80 seconds in the Blues' comprehensive friendly win at Brigg Town on Saturday.
O'Rafferty arrived at the Tech5 Stadium on-loan from Mansfield Town and he linked well with Adam Lee to open the Frickley account.
The Blues continued to stretch the Division 1 South defence and some slick passing between Richard Dunning, O'Rafferty and Danny Clarke saw the latter double the visitors lead.
The new arrival was at the thick of the action and he struck a 20-yard drive which shaved the left hand post just a minute later.
Little had been seen of the Brigg attack but Blues stopper Ben Simpson had to be alert to make a smart reflex.
And the hosts reduced the arrears not long after when Leroy Cockrane forced the ball in from a corner.
Frickley regained their two-goal cushion in the 37th minute when Lee was hauled down inside the box and the referee pointed to the spot.
Lee picked himself up to drill home the resulting penalty to send Frickley in at half-time with a 3-1 lead.
Manager Billy Heath brought on Dan Broadbent and Danny Walsh for Adam Lee and O'Rafferty respectively on the restart.
And it was Broadbent who went close with an angled 12-yard shot across the face of goal after 57 minutes.
A probing pass from Walsh put Broadbent clear on the hour only for Peckinger to make a fine save.
And the stopper saved Brigg again nine minutes later when he pushed a Broadbent effort to safety.
The Ev-Stik Premier Division side maintained the pressure and further reward came in the 86th minute when Charles Fisher's driven cross from the right was turned into the net by Lee for his second of the afternoon.
A 20-yard shot from Broadbent zipped inches over the target on the stroke of full time but the Blues will have been happy with their workout.
The Blues bring their so-far successful friendly fixtures to a close this Saturday when they visit Wakefield FC, kick-off 3pm.
Frickley: Ben Simpson, Charles Fisher, Ben Chapman (Lee Booth 80), Patrick McGuire (Matty Bloor 71), Matt Bird, Dean Jones (Jack Nodder 64), Danny Clarke (Scott Turner 74), Richard Dunning, Adam Lee (Dan Broadbent 42), Nialle O'Rafferty (Danny Walsh 56), Andy Lee.
