Injury-hit Blues held by Ossett Town
Frickley Athletic 1 Ossett Town 1 FRICKLEY Athletic had to settle for a share of the spoils when lowly Ossett Town visited the Tech5 Stadium for a proverbial 'six pointer' last night.
Adam Lee's seventh-minute strike cancelled out a Pat McGuire opener for the visitors, who had Paul Lines back in the manager's dugout following the resignation of Peter Daniel last weekend.
The Blues were looking for all three points to move a step closer to UniBond Premier Division safety but first-half injuries to Lee, Matty Bloor and the influential Steve Heath upset their game-plan.
The three points were more important to visiting Town, and they got off to a superb start when McGuire launched a 30-yard effort through a ruck of players and into the back of the net just three minutes in.
The hosts showed their intent when Alistair Benson hit the bar with a header before Lee levelled four minutes later with a clinical finish inside the box.
The Blues were on top and further chances fell to Lee, Benson and Chris White but Frickley couldn't take a lead into the interval.
Town were playing on the break and they almost regained the lead when Darren Thornton smashed a long-range effort which forced Adam Nicklin to tip the effort over the bar.
Frickley's triple injury blow forced boss Billy Heath to shuffle the pack at the interval and it somewhat took the sting out of their attacks on the resumption.
White did have a couple of efforts blocked and at the other end Nicklin had to be alert to deny Fernando Moke and Ross Hardacre.
But neither side could find the winning goal and, although keen to pick up three points, it will be the Blues who finished the happier of the two teams.
The result leaves Frickley eight points above Ossett, and the Premier Division relegation spots.
