Huddersfield Town sack manager Lee Clark

HUDDERSFIELD Town have today sacked manager Lee Clark.

Clark leaves the Galpharm Stadium with his entire coaching staff and with the club fourth in npower League One.

The news comes less than 24 hours after the Terriers fell to a 1-0 home defeat against promotion rivals Sheffield United, leaving them four points off the automatic promotion spots having also played a game more than the second-placed Blades.

But Town chairman Dean Hoyle says the decision wasn’t taken in the heat of the moment.

“This was a very difficult decision; one not taken lightly or in response to one result,” he said.

“Concerns have been raised over recent weeks.

“Lee and his coaching staff have put their all into the job over the past three seasons and he has made a huge contribution to the Club.

“However with 16 matches to go we still have an opportunity to achieve promotion and we have made this change with this in mind.”

Clark, who had been linked with the vacant manager’s post at Leeds United, had been at Town for just over three years. He helped the Terriers to the play-offs in the last two seasons, losing in last season’s final against Peterborough United.

Academy manager Mark Lillis will take temporary charge of the team until a new manager is appointed.
