Hemsworth spinner Wainwright bounces back as Yorkshire bow out of T20

YORKSHIRE may have made an early exit from this year's Twenty20 competition, but Hemsworth's David Wainwright can take plenty from his three straight appearances in the competition.

Yorkshire Carnegie ended their campaign in the short version of the game with a six-wicket victory over Derbyshire Falcons in Derby yesterday.

The victory ended a four-match losing streak in the competition this season but it still wasn't enough to see Yorkshire through to the latter stages.

But for Hemsworth's David Wainwright the competition gave the spinner a much-needed three appearances on the spin.

Wainwright took 1-24 to help see Yorkshire to victory and continue his recovery from injury which kept him out for the majority of the early months of the season.

His performances in all three matches will give director of cricket Martyn Moxon plenty of food for thought as the White Rose county aim to maintain their spot at the top of the LV County Championship.

The former Hemsworth High School pupil hasn't been included in the squad to face fifth-placed Essex this week.

But he'll be knocking on the door for selection should any of Yorkshire's bowlers perform below-par in the coming matches.

It's more likely that he'll be involved in this month's home matches in the Second XI Trophy and Second XI Championship, both against Worcestershire next week.

And Wainwright will be hoping he can repeat the form that got him a spot in the England Lions squad earlier this year as he aims to break into Yorkshire's county squad.
