Hemsworth cricket star in England World Twenty20 Cup contention
HEMSWORTH cricket star David Wainwright has been included in the ECB's provisional England squad for the forthcoming ICC World Twenty20 Cup.
The Yorkshire spinner, 24, has impressed the England selectors enough to be named in the provisional 30-man squad for the competition, which takes place in the Caribbean from Friday, April 30.
The former Hemsworth High School pupil is one of five uncapped players named in the squad and he'll be hoping he makes the cut when the squad is chopped to a final 15.
National selector Geoff Miller said: "We have a number of young players knocking on the door, which underlines the depth in talent currently available, and I know all concerned will be hoping they make the final squad for what is a highly anticipated tournament.
"All players named have shown their ability in the shortest form of the game, and the selectors have some difficult decisions to make when reducing the squad to 15 players."
The Hemsworth bowler has been a key member of the Yorkshire squad since making his first-class debut in 2004.
He's featured for the England Lions and was involved when they fell to defeat against Pakistan A in Dubai last month.
His debut in the ever-growing Twenty20 format came against Lancashire in 2007.
And he'll be hoping the call-up to the ECB's provisional World Cup squad marks the start of a successful career at international level.
Wainwright joins Yorkshire team mates Tim Bresnan, Ajmal Rahzad and Adil Rashid in the squad.
