Grehan returns to Australia

BACK row forward or centre James Grehan (pictured) has left Castleford Tigers to return home to Australia.

The 23-year-old was brought in on a one-year contract from French side Limoux in January with a view to filling the problem centre position, but after struggling to earn first team opportunities was sent out on loan to Championship club Batley Bulldogs in April.

He has now decided to head home after making just four appearances for Castleford.

Meanwhile, Castleford coach Ian Millward will check on the fitness of prop forward Nathan Massey before announcing his squad for Sunday’s Stobart Super League clash with Salford City Reds.

The Tigers are back at home for the first time since May 7 and Millward wants his strongest possible squad available as he hopes a return to the Probiz Coliseum will revive the club’s flagging fortunes, but Massey had to leave the field in Monday’s defeat at Bradford with an arm injury.

Academy product Massey has been Castleford’s most consistent prop this year after establishing himself as a first team regular and will be given time to prove his fitness ahead of the Salford match.

If he does not make it, Millward can recall Jake Emmitt, who has missed out in the last two matches. He is also hoping to bring back full-back Richard Owen, who missed the Bradford match with a back injury while back row forward Steve Snitch began his return to fitness when playing for the nines team on Tuesday night.
