Elmsall pool queen Kelly Fisher travels to Philippines to defend world pool crown
SOUTH Elmsall’s Kelly Fisher will travel to the Philippines on Friday to defend her World 10-ball pool crown.
The women’s world number one is the only person to ever hold both the women’s 10-ball and 9-ball crowns, the latter being won in June, and she’ll be eager to hold on to that accolade in Manila.
It’ll be a tough task but the 34-year-old will be the favourite going into the competition.
And she’ll be in confident mood thanks to her 9-ball triumph two months ago and an encouraging performance in the World Pool Team Championships in Beijing, where she helped an England team including Pontefract’s Darren Appleton into the semi-finals, losing to the eventual winners.
Lionel Payne, Kelly’s coach, says the competition will be strong but believes the Elmsall pool queen has what it takes to taste victory again.
“It’s a strong field there’s no doubt about that,” he said.
“There are a lot of strong Asian players over there but Kelly has come up against many of them before and she’s in good form going into the competition.”
The 10-ball tournament starts on Saturday and comes to a conclusion the following Friday.
