Clarke and Melcher to return as Blues aim for first win of the season

DANNY Clarke and Luke Melcher are set to return to action for Frickley Athletic as the Blues prepare for two Evo-Stik Premier League games in three days.

Clarke missed Tuesday night's 0-0 stalemate against FC Halifax Town at Westfield Lane with a dead leg picked up in the opening day defeat at Kendal Town.

And former Ossett Town man Melcher has yet to feature in the opening two games of the Blues' campaign.

But the duo are expected to return to action when Frickley host Ashton United at the Tech5 Stadium on Saturday and then travel to Whitby Town on Bank Holiday Monday (both kick-off at 3pm).

"Luke should be back in contention for us," said Blues boss Billy Heath.

"He should be okay for Saturday but we have another training session on Thursday and we'll take a look at his fitness then to see if he's ready and hoping he will be."

The Blues have no fresh injury or suspension concerns ahead of the double header but Heath could shuffle his pack for both games as he looks to keep his squad's fitness at a premium.

Midfielder Andy Catton remains the Blues' only long-term injury absentee with a broken leg.
