Blues look to return with Olympic win

THE SNOW fell at just the right time for Frickley Athletic manager Peter Rinkcavage at the weekend.
The Blues were scheduled to host Mickleover Sports on Saturday in the league and FC United of Manchester in the Doodson Sport Cup on Tuesday night but both fell victim to the snow and cold conditions.
But Rinkcavage wasn’t too disappointed with the cancellations as key players got extra time to recover and bolster his Blues’ squad.
“It was good to be able to settle down, have a bit of a rest and let players recover from bumps and bruises,” he said.
“The players who were struggling to be ready to play last Saturday should all be fine now to play this weekend,
“We’ll assess them all in training on Thursday but hopefully they should all be fit to feature.”
Danny Walsh (back), Grant Darley (ankle), Ryan Mallon (hip) and Danny South (thigh) were all injury concerns going into last weekend’s scheduled matches but the quartet hope to be involved at Rushall Olympic on Saturday (kick-off 3pm).
Lincoln Adams and Ollie Ryan will both miss the match through suspension but Rinkcavage has an otherwise fully-fit squad to choose from for the trip to the West Midlands, should the match beat the current cold snap.
And the Blues boss will need a strong squad at his disposal when they go up against a Rushall side pushing for the Evo-Stik Premier Division play-off spots this term.
“They’re a strong side and they’ve done ever so well so far this season,” said Rinkcavage.
“They’ve adjusted to the division well, it’s their first season back at this level and they’ve probably take a few teams by surprise.
“We’ll be looking to go there and get the win like we do in every match but we know it’s going to be tough.”
Neil Kitching’s men left the Tech5 Stadium with a slender 1-0 victory in the reverse encounter earlier in the season and are knocking on the door of the Premier Division’s top-six.
Rushall also saw their scheduled league game postponed at the weekend but they got some valuable game time on a 3G surface in a friendly match at the weekend.
It saw a return to action for player-assistant manager Nick Amos following an injury set-back and the 36-year-old is set to return to Olympic’s squad to take on the Blues this weekend.
