Blues boss confident ahead of "toughest" opening fixture

FRICKLEY Athletic boss Billy Heath is full of confidence going into the opening weekend of the new Evo-Stik Premier League season - despite labelling the Blues' clash at Kendal Town as the hardest game they could have got.

Heath takes his men to Cumbria for the first game of their centenary season on Saturday (kick-off 3pm) and on the back of a productive pre-season which has resulted in a five-game unbeaten run.

And although the Blues' boss is confident of a good season at the Tech5 Stadium, he believes the opening fixture couldn't have got much tougher.

"People would say that Halifax is going to be the toughest game of the season but for me it's Kendal away," he said.

"It's the longest trip that you've got to make and it's always a partisan crowd that you come up against there.

"There will be a big crowd for the first game and they'll be tipped to do well this season but we're positive and we're going there for the three points."

Kendal finished in a play-off position in the Premier Division last season and will be hoping for more of the same this term.

Heath will wait until the final training session with his players tonight before picking his first starting eleven of the season.

But Andy Catton will be out with a broken leg and there are doubts over Simon Sturdy, Michael Woods and Luke Melcher, who will all have their fitness assessed.

See today's Hemsworth and South Elmsall Express for Heath's thoughts ahead of the new season.
