Blues' Barnsley friendly cancelled

FRICKLEY Athletic have been forced to cancel their pre-season friendly clash against npower Championship side Barnsley.

The Blues were scheduled to host the Tykes at their Tech5 Stadium base on Tuesday, kick-off 7.45pm.

But the Oakwell club informed Frickley of the need to cancel the friendly due to a high amount of injuries to their squad.

Blues secretary Steve Pennock said: "This is due to Barnsley having a lot of injuries, and only currently having a small squad.

"They have informed us that they will try and arrange a match against us in the near future.

"While we are obviously disappointed, we do thank Barnsley FC for giving us advance notice of the cancellation and not just cancelling at the last minute."

The cancellation will be a blow to the Evo-Stik Premier League club financially, with a large crowd expected at South Elmsall for the clash.

The Blues have acted quickly to find a replacement for the friendly date, with Billy Heath able to test his men against Division 1 North side Ossett Albion.

The match will take place on Tuesday at the same time, kick-off 7.45pm.
