Blues bag crucial home win against Matlock Town
Frickley Athletic 1 Matlock Town 0 A LATE Danny Walsh penalty gave Frickley three crucial points against Matlock Town at the Tech5 Stadium.
Walsh converted the spot-kick with eight minutes to go after new signing Mick Goddard was dragged down inside the box.
It gave the Blues a first home victory since October and more importantly lifted them eight points clear of the UniBond Premier Division relegation zone.
In-form Matlock started the game well and forced Billy Heath's men on to the back foot in the opening exchanges.
The hosts found their way into the game though and twice came close through on-song goalscorer Adam Lee.
Chances came for both sides before Walsh put the Blues in front from the spot late on.
Frickley had to work hard to defend their lead as the visitors pushed forward for a leveller late on, but Liam King's header was diverted off the line and the Blues held on for three vital points.
Frickley: Nicklin, Normington, Chapman, Walsh, Heath, Jones, Bloor (Davies 76min), Groome, Lee (Goddard 61min), Benson, White. Subs not used: Grace, Moody.
