BARNSLEY manager Keith Hill has confirmed that former Swansea City, Sheffield United and Wigan Athletic winger David Cotterill is having a medical at Oakwell with a view to joining the Reds until the end of the season.
Cotterill, 24, was released by the Swans in January after a frustrating period in South Wales, in which he failed to make an impression on the first team following their promotion to the Premier League last season.
He was having a trial with Leicester City but the Foxes opted instead for a move for Stoke City winger Ben Marshall - paving the way for the Reds to move in.
“We’re very close, we’ve been in negotiations with him and his agent for quite a while,” Hill confirmed.
“He came down last week to visit us under the radar and had a look around the training facilities. He actually watched us play against Leicester because he was due to sign for Leicester up until them signing Ben Marshall. It gave him the freedom and us the opportunity [to sign him].
“He comes with a good knowledge of the Championship, has experience and it’s a no brainer.”
“He’s due to sign today, he’s just taking part in his medical and with international clearance he’ll be available for the weekend.”
Cotterill could make his debut in Barnsley’s home game against Portsmouth on Saturday.
