Barnsley complete loan capture of Stoke City’s Michael Tonge
BARNSLEY have signed Stoke City midfielder Michael Tonge on loan for the rest of the season.
Reds boss Keith Hill has been looking to bolster his squad this month and accelerated his search following the departure of Danny Drinkwater to Leicester City last week.
Tonge, 28, doesn’t feature in Tony Pulis’s plans at the Premier League club and the move to Oakwell will be his fourth loan stint away from the Britannia Stadium.
He’s made just five appearances for Stoke after making a £2 million switch from Sheffield United, where he made his name, in 2008.
Loan spells with Derby County and Preston North End have followed and Barnsley will be hoping they can get the best out of a midfielder that showed plenty of talent during his time just down the M1 at Bramall Lane.
Tonge is expected to go straight into Barnsley’s squad to face Derby County at Oakwell next Tuesday.
