A Hemsworth Arts and Community College athletics ace has been selected to represent West Yorkshire at next month’s English Schools’ Track and Field Championships.
Taylor Hammond, 13, will run in the 800m at the event, to be held at the Birmingham Alexander Stadium on July 5-6.
The call came on the back of Hammond winning the West Yorkshire Schools’ 800m title at the West Yorkshire Schools’ Athletics Championships in Cleckheaton.
The young speedster came home in 2 minutes 23.29 seconds to take the title, an improvement on 2 mins 27 secs that helped her defend her Wakefield Schools’ title.
The Barnsley Athletics Club runner is ranked 4th in Yorkshire and 56th in the United Kingdom and will look to continue her growing reputation on the national stage next month.
