Rising star Ashley Robson says he is thriller to have agreed a new two-year contract extension with Castleford Tigers, keeping him with the club until at least the end of the 2017 season.
Robson, 19, made his first team debut away at Salford Red Devils earlier this season, scoring what turned out to be the winning try, and has appeared in one other Super League game so far this season.
He joined the Tigers after leaving Leeds Rhinos Academy. His impressive performances in the Castleford under 19s team caught the eye of head coach Daryl Powell, promoting Robson to the first team environment.
Robson said: “I was absolutely buzzing when I found out, I am really happy.
“There’s a few of us young players here and they just make us feel like one of their own as do the fans and the coaching team.”
Head coach Powell has high hopes for Robson
He said: “Ash Robson has proved during his time in the first team squad this year that he is going to be an excellent player in the future both at full-back and on the wing.
“His attitude is first class and I am confident he will continue to develop over the next two years. I am delighted he has agreed to sign to continue his development with Castleford Tigers.”
Tigers head of youth Pete Riding is proud to see Robson join his young team mates Brandon Westerman, Will Maher and Tom Holmes, who have all recently committed their futures to the club
He added: “I am delighted that Ash has agreed a two-year extension having already had the opportunity to play first grade this year,
“Ash’s story is an interesting one having signed professional forms with Leeds Rhinos at the age of 16. After a short period of time Ash asked to be released from his contact and went back to his roots playing at York Acorn. Having watched him playing for York Acorn I asked if he fancied giving it another go at professional level and after a number of conversations he agreed having seen that there was a genuine pathway here at the Tigers.
“Since joining the Tigers Ash has really bought into the culture that we are trying to develop here and rightly so has got his rewards.
“He has all the right attributes to do well in the game and I look forward to seeing him fulfil the potential that he possesses.
“This signing along with other recent ones again evidences that the environment that we provide and the opportunities that exist are helping our young players fulfil their potential.”
