HEMSWORTH RUFC continued their fine start to 2011 with a second home win on the spin which lifts them into the Yorkshire Division 4 promotion spots.
The Moxon Fields side came from 10-9 down at half-time to beat in-form Leeds Medics and Dentists 21-10 and move above Burley, who lost against league leaders Sheffield Medics and Dentists, in the table.
In a close-fought contest Dale Joburns kicked the only points of the first 20 minutes as the hosts led 3-0.
Mark Wilson’s men failed to cross the whitewash in the first 40 minutes though and Leeds edged ahead by a single point at the break thanks to two unconverted tries.
Joburns kicked two more successful kicks to keep Hemsworth within a point of their visitors and the game nicely poised going into the second half.
Hemsworth were dealt a double blow before the interval though with injuries to Mick Thompson (rib) and Neal Mears Senior (shoulder).
But replacements Gareth Jones and Neil Mears Junior were up for the challenge and Hemsworth upped their gear in the second 40.
Both sides cancelled each other out until 15 minutes to go when Mears Junior scrambled to win the ball and sent a pass out to Dave Gorton, who crossed for an unconverted try to edge Hemsworth ahead.
The hosts had the momentum and Joe Thompson was next over the whitewash, Joburns converting to complete the scoring and give Hemsworth a big win.
