HEMSWORTH MW were no match for Sheffield FC as they fell to a 4-1 defeat in the Sheffield and Hallamshire Senior Cup on Tuesday night.
The Evo-Stik Division 1 South side had their progression to the last eight sewn up by half-time as they coasted into a 4-0 lead at a chilly MDC Sports Stadium.
Welfare held out until the 21st minute when Shaq McKenzie broke the deadlock for the visitors and Steve Woolley doubled Sheffield’s lead minutes later.
Andy Gascoigne made it three for Curtis Woodhouse’s side and seconds before the interval Anton Foster made it 4-0 to the visitors to leave Hemsworth with a mountain to climb.
The hosts upped their gear in the second half and Neil Towler headed an effort against the bar as they looked for a consolation goal.
That eventually came with five minutes to go when Reece White put the ball into his own goal following pressure from Jack Wakefield.
Towler had a shot cleared off the line in the closing stages as the hosts looked to further narrow the gap but Sheffield progressed to the quarter-finals in convincing fashion.
