Hemsworth mixed martial arts fighter Scott Askham is upping his training levels ahead of his UCFC (Ultimate Cage Fighting Championships) British Middleweight title defence at Doncaster’s Keepmoat Stadium later this month.
Askham will take on Jack Marshman in the first defence of his title on Saturday, July 27, in what’s set to be the biggest fight of his ever-improving career.
The 25-year-old, unbeaten with ten wins from as many fights as a professional, clinched the title last August against Mark Jones and has won all three of his fights since then to take him into this month’s fight at the 15,000 arena in confident mood.
The victories have seen him rocket up the British rankings and an eleventh success in the ring against Marshman could see him climb as high as fifth.
“Training’s going really well and I’m just looking forward to getting out there now,” said Askham, who trains at Ludus Magnus Gym in Doncaster.
“I’m getting closer to the fight now, it can’t come soon enough, and these last two weeks will be really tough in training.”
The fight card is packed with some of the biggest MMA legends on the circuit including former Ultimate Fighting Championship legends Neil Wain, of South Elmsall, Ian Freeman, the former Vale Tudo champion and the USA’s Ken Shamrock, a UFC veteran.
There is also UFC’s and TUF finale contestant Andre Winner, Ricco Rodriguez, the unbeaten Bellator fighter Karl Etherington.
The event will see hip-hop star Professor Green, Jay MYA and The Sunshine Underground performing.
Regular tickets are priced at £50 if bought in advance but Askham has been handed a limited number of tickets for £35 to be sold on a first come, first served basis. They can be bought by contacting Askham direct on 07584 250727.
