UNBEATEN Hemsworth MMA (mixed martial arts) pro Scott Askham will face Polish fighter Aurijius Kerpe in his next bout.
The 22-year-old has won all three of his bouts since turning professional and will be eyeing a fourth when he enters the ring at Barnsley Metrodome on Friday, October 7.
Kerpe has won his last two bouts and has experience on his side - he’s won ten and lost 15 of his 25 pro bouts.
But Askham is confident he can keep his impressive record going at a venue he’s enjoyed before.
“I’ve been at other shows with him [Kerpe] before and I know he’s a tough fighter,” he said.
“He has some good wins to his name so it’s not going to be easy but I know that he’s not that great on the floor.
“He has experience but I’ve been training really well recently and I know I can beat him.”
Barnsley Metrodome has proved a happy hunting ground for Askham - he’s won all of his bouts there as a semi professional and pro
He’ll be hoping for more of the same on October 7.
Askham will go into the contest on the back of a quickfire victory in Liverpool at the start of the month.
He needed just 24 seconds to win his bout against his opponent at the Olympia MMA Championships in Merseyside and make it three pro wins from three bouts.
He’s been working with trainer Neil Wain at Doncaster-based MMA club Matrix MMA.
Askham had been training at Doncaster Martial Arts Centre but made the move to Matrix recently.
“I’m still looking to improve in all areas, I’ve been working hard all the time in training,” he said.
“I worked hard on my Jiu jitsu and now I think I’m well rounded in all areas of my fighting.”
Askham would like to thank his trio of sponsors for their support in helping him to success in mixed martial arts.
They are Millennium Motor Spares in Kinsley, The Injury Clinic and Hoyle Mill MOT Centre of Kinsley.
