Hemsworth fighter Scott Askham is just one win away from a shot at the BAMMA World Middleweight title after being handed an eliminator fight in Birmingham next month.
The unbeaten mixed martial arts (MMA) star will take on Brazilian Jorge Luis ‘Michelan’ Bezerra at the National Indoor Arena on Saturday, September 14 for the chance to fight for the vacant BAMMA World Middleweight title in December.
The fight will be Askham’s biggest yet and the current UCFC Middleweight champion will look to stretch his record to eleven wins and no losses and maintain his move up the UK rankings.
“It’s going to be a big one,” he said.
“He’s good at Brazilian Jiu Jitsu so he’ll try and get on the floor a lot and my aim will be to keep him standing.
“I’m ready for the fight though, I always am - I’m ready to take on anybody.
“I’m in the UK top ten now and this will probably be the biggest fight I’ve had.”
Askham says his Brazilian Jiu Jitsu will be up to scratch when he enters the arena against an opponent who has 18 victories and nine defeats to his name.
But the Hemsworth star says an all-round game is crucial in modern day MMA.
“In the olden days it was style versus style, boxing against boxing but that’s changed,” he said.
“You’ve got to be good everywhere now and I’ve always trained to be like that so I’ll be ready.”
Askham will go into the fight on the back of a victory over BAMMA’s former Number 1 ranked British Middleweight, Jack Marshman at the Keepmoat Stadium in his last fight in July.
He also defeated Jack Marshman on his debut on BAMMA 12 and will go into the contest in confident mood.
Tickets are priced at £25 and be bought by contacting Askham on 07584 250727.
