Hemsworth stretched their unbeaten run to six games and maintained their Yorkshire Division 4 promotion push with a 22-7 victory at Marist.
The Moxon Fields side had to overcome poor weather conditions and a Marist side who have a poor discipline record this season, something which the Hull club took into the clash with Carl Wroe’s men.
Hemsworth knew victory in East Yorkshire would be a tough ask after coming out on top with a 29-27 victory in a close-fought reverse clash on home soil in October.
They had six first team players missing for the trip to Marist and had to go toe-to-toe with the opponents in a scrappy opening.
The breakthrough came after 20 minutes when Dale Joburns put debutant John Johnson in for the opening try, the former also kicking the conversion.
The visitors took a 10-0 lead into the break and brought Wroe and Nathan Cooper on at the start of the second half.
The changes paid off when Cooper waltzed around his marker to score the next try and put Hemsworth 15-0 to the good.
Marist refused to throw in the towel and hauled themselves back into the contest with a converted try which kept Hemsworth on their toes.
Victory for Wroe’s men was crucial if they were to continue their promotion push and they sealed the points when Jake Thomson powered over the line.
Joburns slotted over a superb touchline conversion to complete the scoring and give Hemsworth a vital victory.
Rhys Coates and Charles Briscoe shared the man of the match award.
