HEMSWORTH RUFC coach Mark Wilson has revealed that even the slimmest chance of achieving promotion from Yorkshire Division 4 will keep his side’s focus firmly on victory in the final two matches of the season.
The Moxon Fields men thought they’d missed out on promotion from Yorkshire Division 5 in 2009 before the league added a play-off game for an extra promotion place to Division 4.
There has been no mention of such a measure being introduced this season, but past experience means Hemsworth won’t be taking any chances.
“Just in case it does happen we’ll be making sure we win both games,” said Wilson.
“It happened two years ago so me and Carl (Wroe) don’t want to look like fools this year if it happens again.
“Harrogate have a game in hand on us so third place is by no means ours, we have to make sure we win this weekend and in our final home game against Ossett.”
Hemsworth make the trip to face Halifax, a side needing points to avoid relegation, on Saturday.
Prop Mark Ellis, who has been unavailable for a number of games this season due to family and work commitments, has been called up to the first team.
Second team wing wizard Matt Jordan has also got the nod with Jake Thomson out injured, while centre Shaun Rowley will also feature.
Hemsworth were 34-12 winners at homes in December and they’ll be looking for more of the same.
Hemsworth squad to face Halifax: Ellis, Key, Harrison, Jones, L Thompson, Sykes, Coates, Briscoe, Joburns, J Thompson, Gorton, Taylor, Jordan, Joburns, Mulhern, M Thompson, Porritt, Rowley.
