FRICKLEY Athletic’s Jekyll and Hyde form in the Evo-Stik Premier Division continued at Grantham Town on Saturday as the Blues fell to a 2-1 defeat.

The Blues conceded two early goals to the Gingerbreads and, despite a second-half Chris Howarth strike, could not avert a ninth defeat from as many away matches so far this season.

Karl Rose’s men fell behind in the fourth minute when Luke Danville was adjudged to have fouled Paul Grimes inside the box and the Grantham player dusted himself down to drill home the resulting penalty.

Things got worse for the visitors in the ninth minute when Grimes squeezed in his second of the match from a tight angle to leave the South Elmsall side with it all to do.

Frickley came more into exchanges and Allott’s attempted lob fell into the hands of Town goalkeeper Jimmy Lindley.

At the other end Grimes could have had a first-half hat-trick as he stabbed a shot against the post and beat Danville nine minutes later before crossing for Sam Purcicoe, who blasted his effort over the bar.

Despite Grantham’s first-half dominance the Blues could have grabbed a lifeline going into the interval only for Jake Picton’s powerful header to rattle the bar.

Allott and Hinsley came close to scoring early in the second half as the visitors continued their momentum into the second half before the Blues grabbed their goal just before the hour mark.

Luke Hinsley broke away down the right and his crossed was knocked down by Allott, with Howarth finding the back of the net from 15 yards.

Frickley thought they had got on level terms five minutes from the end when Allott had the ball in the back but he was ruled offside.
