ALAN Gillard was crowned West Riding Sailing Club Frostbite Series Champion at the weekend.
The Sheffield sailor amassed enough top finishes throughout the series, held at the club’s Wintersett reservoir base, to finish on top, ahead of second-placed Mark Weston, of Wakefield, and third-placed Tim Keighley, of Leeds.
Gillard enjoyed top-three finishes in three of the last four races, which were held at the weekend.
He crossed the line first in the opening race, beating second-placed Howard Frear, of Sheffield, and Pontefract’s Dave Baxter in third.
Gillard had to make do with third spot in the second race of the weekend, with Huddersfield’s John Gledill taking top spot and Dave Baxter in third.
Normal service resumed in race 14, where Gillard came first, Weston second and Frear was third.
In the final race, West finished first, Hamish Gledhill was second and Baxter was third.
It meant Gillard came top outright, Weston finished second and Keighley was third.
Racing will resume in the new year with the Northern Brass Monkey Series.
