Frickley Athletic’s Bank Holiday double-header has taken on more importance after the Blues suffered back-to-back defeats to open their season.
The South Elmsall side host Rushall Olympic on Saturday before making the trip to Whitby Town on Monday (both kick-off at 3pm) and will be searching for their first points of the new Evo-Stik Premier League campaign.
A 6-4 defeat at newly-promoted Stamford on the opening day was followed by a less exciting 1-0 home defeat against Buxton on Tuesday night, leaving the Blues as one of four clubs without a point so far.
And boss Karl Rose will be eager for his side to get their first victory sooner rather than later after starting last season with a six-game winless run that left them playing catch-up throughout the campaign.
Rose was desperate for a strong start to the season and will now look to the Bank Holiday weekend as the ideal opportunity to bag some crucial points that would fire his side up the table.
The Blues boss is also keen to make Westfield Lane a fortress this season and Saturday’s visit of Rushall gives his men the ideal opportunity to bounce back straight.
Olympic won their opening match of the season but suffered a 6-0 defeat at Kings Lynn Town in midweek.
The trip to Whitby is set to be tougher on paper, with Town taking four points from a possible six going into the weekend matches.
Rose says he is currently in talks with new signings and there could be new players in the squad for the crucial weekend fixtures.
The Blues will start their defence of the Sheffield and Hallamshire Senior Cup with a trip to either Harworth or High Green Villa in the 2nd round.
The match is due to be played in the week ending Saturday, October 12.
