FORMER Sheffield Wednesday midfielder Lewis McMahon scored twice to guide Matlock Town to victory against Frickley Athletic last night.

Joe Leesley also scored while Glyn Cotton bagged the Blues’ consolation as Town made it a Evo-Stik Premier Division ‘double’ over Frickley in a matter of weeks.

Matlock had won 2-1 at Westfield Lane last month, with Leesley and McMahon again getting on the scoresheet, and it was more of the same at Causeway Lane last night.

Karl Rose’s side were looking to build on their first point of the season against Ashton United at the weekend and had the better of the first-half in terms of possession and chances.

But, as with against Ashton, they fell behind late in the first half when McMahon fired the hosts ahead somewhat against the run of play.

Leesley doubled their lead in the 66th-minute but Frickley got themselves back in the contest when Cotton reduced the deficit just minutes later.

Both sides created chances late on but it was Matlock who scored the next decisive goal with McMahon grabbing his second of the match to seal the points for the hosts.
