FRICKLEY Athletic captain Michael Simpkins was sent off as Frickley Athletic endured a miserable 2-0 home defeat to Matlock Town last night, Tuesday.
A goal in each half was good enough to give the Derbyshire visitors all three Evo-Stik Premier points against an Athletic team who struggled to get going.
Simpkins picked up a first booking for dissent in the 12th minute and Town rubbed salt in the wounds five minutes later when Tyeisse Nightingale’s shot hit the back of the net.
Alex Callery was forced off the field with a cut head late in the first half and he was replaced by Bradley Grayson but it was the visitors who continued to threaten in the second period.
Blues goalkeeper Adam Billard produced a couple of smart saves and Chris Bettney smashed the post on the hour mark.
Simpkins’ dismissal for a second booking a couple of minutes later further inspired the visitors and after Bettney had hit the woodwork again, James Lukic’s deflected shot doubled Town’s tally on 78 minutes.
