Young footballers at Minsthorpe Community College have been in outstanding form.

The college’s year seven girls’ football team lifted the West Yorkshire Schools’ FA County Cup.

They showed their class by trouncing Corpus Christi College 13-1 and Mirfield School 9-0 . In their final fixture, Minsthorpe had a walk-over because their opponents withdrew from the competition.

Minsthorpe’s successful team were presented with the trophy at their own school.

It is the first major trophy won by a girls footbball team at Minsthorpe College.

The team are unbeaten and showing great promise ahead of the start of theEnglish Schools League in February.

The team is Eleanor Milnes, Jessica Bowkett, Evie Hobbs, Demi Jo Hargreaves, Courtney Long, Kizzie Harrison. Alisha Kirkham, Mill Hickin, Jessica Tingle, Nicole Ellison, Elliejay Reynolds and Jessica Clift.

Not to be outdone, Minsthorpe College’s year eight boys’ football team were also crowned county champions.

They lifted the West Yorkshire Schools’ FA Under 13 County Cup by beating Holmfirth 2-1 in the final at Ossett Albion FC.

Holmfirth opened the scoring but Mason Kilmartin levelled matters before Brad Binns scored the winner.

Minsthorpe are now through to the last 32 of the ESFA National Schools Cup.

They will be aiming to reach the last 16 when they take on Blue Coat C of E High School (Oldham) in the next round this month. The competition started with 446 schools across the nation.

Minsthorpe’s team is Lewis Rhodes, Josh Twigg, Jackson Hart, Lewis McDermott, Kieran Hicks, Bailey Jones, Brad Binns, Mason Kilmartin, Jake Davies, Christian Elvidge, Harrison Fish, Connor Hepworth, Presley Kitching, Ewan Scott and Josh Larkin.
