Knottingley Albion under 9s came home victorious after entering two teams in the Hemsworth Terriers Gala.
Albion whites started with an unlucky 1-0 defeat to West End, but went on to play some great football to win the final.
In their second group game goals from Jamie Bouncer and Kian Wood clinched victory then Jay Jay Fish and Wood netted in another win before a 1-0 loss to gala favourites Moorthorpe. But they made it through to the quarter-finals where they beat the Knottingley blues team and in the semis they then won 3-1 against Pontefract S&S blues with goals by Bouncer, Callum Ferguson and Joe McManus.
Hosts Hemsworth were the opponents in the final with Albion winning a cracker 3-2 thanks to heroic efforts from Bouncer, who hit a hat-trick, and keeper Tyler Gaskell who made a stunning save late on.
Keagan Preistley and Spencer Howe also played their part in a great victory.
Before losing in the quarter-finals Albion’s blues team played well. They began their group games with great work by from Charlie Hoaksey ensuring a 1-0 win. The next three games saw them play good football and they won a penalty shoot-out against Pontefract S&S reds to clinch second place. Keeper Dominic Coutts was their hero, but earlier Finley Barker, Kaylum O Donnell, Conner McLaughlan, Mason Scott, Kyle Thompson and Matthew Doyle all contributed.
