Newly-promoted Hemsworth Miners Welfare start their Northern Counties East League Premier Division campaign by visiting Parkgate on Wednesday, August 10.

It is followed by three successive home matches against Garforth Town on Saturday, August 13, Bridlington Town on August 16 and Maltby Main on August 20.

Hemsworth, who this week signed striker Del Pollock, complete a busy opening month with trips to Clipstone on August 27 and to Barton Town on August 30. They start September with three successive home fixtures against Clerethorpes Town, Worksop Town and Bottesford Town.

Ossett Town retained the Steve Kelly Memorial Trophy by beating Hemsworth 3-0 in Saturday’s pre-season game.

Welfare’s defensive mistakes were punished in the second-half after a goalless opening 45 minutes.

The best of the first-half chances fell to Hemsworth’s Nash Connolly and Billy Law.

Ossett took a 54th minute lead with Steve Ridley’s shot into the bottom corner. Hemsworth’s Jason Yates had a penalty saved before Ossett doubled their lead after capitalising on a defensive mix-up.

Town sealed victory with Alex Peterson’s inventive flick. Brice Tiani’s long-range effort that hit the crossbar was the closest Hemsworth got to a consolation.
