Frickley Athletic’s hopes for the forthcoming season have received a boost with the signing of eight players and three first teamers from last term agreeing to stay on at the club.
Manager Karl Rose has strengthened the Blues by bringing in four newcomers, including two moving to Westfield Lane from Shaw Lane Aquaforce, to add to four signings he made last week.
Defender John Cyrus and striker Ashley Flynn have both joined Rose’s side from the Northern Counties East League’s first division runners-up and will be looking to make the step up to Evo-Stik Premier League football.
Twenty two-year-old Cyrus and 25- year old Flynn have also played for AFC Emley in the NCE League with Flynn having previously had a short spell at Frickley, making five appearances and scoring one goal under the management of Mark Hancock. He has also played for Garforth Town.
Joining Frickley too are midfielders Aaron Joseph, from Pontefract Collieries, and Bradley Riley, from Albion Sports.
Twenty seven-year-old Joseph played previously for Liversedge in the NCE League while 21-year-old Riley is a prospect who spent time at AFC Emley, FC Halifax Town and Ossett Albion after starting as a Barnsley FC junior.
With pre-season training now in full swing the four new boys have joined the first signings of the summer made by manager Rose.
Returning to the club is striker Danny South while new signings are defender Conor Qualter, winger Cameron Harris and midfielder Matthew Young.
Luke Hinsley, Luke Jeffs and Joe Wilcox, meanwhile, have all re-signed from last season.
South is no stranger to Blues fans, having scored nine goals in 26 appearances for the club during the 2011-12 and early 2012-13 seasons before moving to Stocksbridge Park Steel.
Qualter joins from Central Connecticut State in the USA, having started last season with Ossett Town. The 20-year-old started his career as a junior with Leeds United before joining FC Halifax Town in July, 2012. He has also had loan spells at Kendal Town and Northwich Victoria.
Harris is a 20-year-old winger who had a spell last season with Chorley after joining from Welsh side Pontardawe Town.
Young is a 28-year-old midfielder who joins from Farsley AFC. He is an experienced player who started his career at Huddersfield Town where he made over 30 Football League appearances. He joined Harrogate Town in the 2008-09 season before joining Farsley for the first time then Guiseley and Worksop Town.
