Frickley Athletic, who were celebrating at the end of last season, and will now start the new campaign against Doncaster Rovers.

Frickley Athletic are set to test themselves against Football League opposition with Sky Bet Division One club Doncaster Rovers bringing their first team squad for a prestige friendly next month.

The Blues are delighted to announce that they will play Rovers in a pre-season friendly on Wednesday, July 8, kick-off 7.30pm.

Manager Paul Dickov is due to bring his first team squad to Westfield Lane for what will be the Sky Bet League One side’s first pre-season game of the summer. It will also be the first outing for Karl Rose’s Blues’ squad ahead of the new campaign in the Evo-Stik Premier League.

Admission to the game will be £7 for adults, £5 concessions and £3 under 16s.

Frickley have thanked Paul Dickov and all at Doncaster Rovers for their help in arranging this game, which will be a great way to launch the new campaign.

Frickley’s pre-season schedule also sees them host two more Football League clubs when they play a Hull City XI on Saturday, July 18 (kick-off 3pm) and a Barnsley XI on Tuesday, July 28 (kick-off 7pm).

On Saturday, August 1 their preparations continue as they play North Ferriby United at home (3pm) and on Tuesday, August 4 the Blues will now make the short travel to play Glasshoughton Welfare at their Leeds Road ground (kick-off 7.45pm).

Hemsworth-born former Frickley scout Mick Norbury has just taken over as manager of NCE Division One team Glasshoughton and they will be looking to give Athletic a good test as they rebuild following relegation last term.

Finally, Frickley end their pre-season build-up away to Evo-Stik Division One North side Ossett Town on Saturday, August 8 (3pm).

The first Frickley Academy Ladies training session, meanwhile, brought an encouraging turn out at Minsthorpe Sports Fields.

The Academy thanked all those who turned out and enjoyed playing football tennis.

Training now continues from 6pm to 7pm at Minsthorpe Sports Fields each Wednesday in June and is free of charge. Newcomers are welcome.

The sessions are supported by Sheffield & Hallamshire FA and anyone of any ability age 16 plus are welcome as long as they are not signed on with any other team.

Frickley are hoping the sessions will lead onto forming a ladies team for the 2015-16 season.
