Frickley Athletic play the second of their pre-season games against Football League opposition this Saturday when they take on a Hull City XI at Westfield Lane.

The Blues expect to be up against a team made up of under 21 players, but it will be another test of how their preparations are coming along after their opening fixture against Doncaster Rovers and a disappointing early display in a second game last Saturday when they went down 4-1 to Newcastle Benfield.

Kick-off against the side brought by Football League Championship side Hull is 3pm and Frickley are hoping for another good crowd to follow the encouraging one at the first friendly against Doncaster Rovers.

Further pre-season games are to follow at home against Leeds United’s under 21s on Saturday, July 25 (3pm); a Barnsley XI on Tuesday, July 28 (7pm); and North Ferriby United on Saturday, August 1 (3pm). The Blues are away to Glasshoughton Welfare on Tuesday, August 4 (7.45pm) and Ossett Town on Saturday, August 8 before their Evo-Stik League kick-off the following weekend.

The club are looking for match and match ball sponsors for this coming Saturday’s friendly against a Hull City XI.

Match sponsorship starts at £150 for six people while ball sponsorship starts at £75 for four people.

Similarly, match and match ball sponsorship is still available for the games against Barnsley and North Ferriby.

Anyone interested in sponsoring any of these games can contact Gareth Dando or Steve Pennock.

The club would like to thank David Owen Joinery for sponsoring the match against Leeds United and Leeds United Supporters Club (South Kirkby & District branch) for sponsoring the match ball for the same game.

Meanwhile, Frickley’s second pre-season game saw them lose at Newcastle Benfield when a much-changed side from the one that played against Doncaster Rovers travelled to the North East.

Reece Thompson equalised for the Blues after the home side had taken an early lead, but three second half goals saw Northern League side Benfield run out comfortable 4-1 winners.

Frickley have been drawn away at Grantham Town in the Integro Doodson League Cup first round with the tie to be played on Tuesday, November 10.
