Frickley Athletic will be looking to kick start their season when they travel to the Midlands to take on Sutton Coldfield Town in the Evo-Stik Premier League on Saturday after disappointing results in their first two games.
Karl Rose’s men were unlucky to lose their opener 2-1 at home to Matlock Town last Saturday after leading with just five minutes to play. But it was tough going at Darlington 1883 on Tuesday night when they were beaten 3-0.
With the pressure already on, the Blues are now away to Sutton Coldfield this Saturday (kick-off 3pm) and the home team are in the same boat after drawing their opening game 1-1 with Workington and then being hammered 5-1 at home to Barwell on Tuesday night.
Frickley’s busy start to the campaign sees them in action again next Tuesday when they are at home to Mickleover Sports (kick-off 7.45pm), who have taken four points from their first two matches.
Manager Rose boosted his squad on the eve of the kick-off by securing the signatures of Sebastian Malkowski and Simon Lenighan.
Twenty-one-year-old midfielder Lenighan came through the Leeds United Academy before being released at the end of the 2013-14 season when he joined Harrogate Town.
He spent the latter part of last season on loan at Alfreton Town and has been interesting several Football League clubs, but impressed for Frickley in pre-season games and has now signed for the Blues, making his competitive debut against Matlock Town last Saturday.
Malkowski, is a 28-year-old Polish goalkeeper who joins from Zawisza, in Poland, and needed international clearance to be able to play for Frickley. He also went straight into the team against Matlock.
Three more new players were added to Frickley’s ranks after the weekend’s game with Peter Fotko, Connor Griffin and Jake Ellam all signing.
Fotko is a 25-year-old Slovakian keeper who joins after being released by Goole AFC.
Griffin is a defender who has featured pre-season for the Blues. He is 18 and joins after being released by Lincoln City where he came through their academy.
Ellam is an 18-year-old old midfielder who joins after coming through Sheffield Wednesday’s academy. Lee Stratford and Jon Hood have also signed registration forms.
