Goals from Jacob Hazel and Brad Grayson saw Frickley Athletic ease past Phoenix FC in the Sheffield & Hallamshire Senior Cup third round.

Manager Karl Rose took the opportunity to give starts to goalkeeper Peter Fotko, midfielder Jake Ellam and forward Chris Wood while Connor Griffin was fit enough for a late appearance off the subs bench after recovering from injury.

In terrible blustery conditions the Blues kicked against the wind in the first half and went close in the third minute when Brad Dockerty beat his marker inside the box before seeing his angled 12-yard shot well saved by Conor Merone.

Shortly afterwards Tyler Williams cut in from the left before firing over from 20 yards before a rare Phoenix attack saw Fotko race out of his box to clear from the advancing Rob Gorman.

On 22 minutes Dockerty beat two men as he cut into the box from the right before seeing his low angled shot blocked by Merone while almost immediately James Lawton forced Fotko into his first real save from 20 yards.

Frickley took the lead on 29 minutes when Wood chested the ball down to Hazel just inside the Phoenix half and he took the ball on before driving a low 25-yard shot past Merone and into the bottom right hand corner.

Half time saw Brad Grayson and Luke Hinsley replace Dockerty and Simon Lenighan. Within minutes of the restart Tyler Williams had a 15-yard shot deflected over the bar, Wood headed a Grayson corner just wide of the far post and Danny Harrison sliced a dangerous Williams cross over his own bar from four yards.

Grayson just failed to reach a great chip into the box from Williams on 72 minutes and Ellam fired a 25-yard shot over before Grayson sealed the win in the 76th minute. A Phoenix corner was cleared by Williams for Hazel to carry the ball to the right hand corner of the penalty area before picking out Grayson who swept the ball just inside the right hand post from 12 yards.

Hazel shot just wide from 18 yards as the Blues were content to see out the game.
