Frickley Athletic boss Karl Rose was pleased with the performances of his new signings in Tuesday’s pre-season clash with Doncaster Rovers.
Four new men took to the field against the Championship outfit, as Frickley put in a good showing despite losing 4-0.
Former North Ferriby duo Steve Gardner and Mark Gray were among the new faces on show, alongside midfielder Phil Oniama and centre-back Aiden Barnett.
Gray and Barnett played the first half at Westfield Lane, while Gardner and Oniama were substituted in the second half, but Rose was pleased with their impact.
He said: “It was a great game and let us have a look at the new players.
“They made a very good impression, some only met the squad at training this week and went straight in to play a Championship side.
“They won’t be judged on this result, it was all about mental approach and how we coped, which was very well.
“We have plenty of games to play now to decide who we want to keep and who we don’t, and to get the new lads into the mentality of our players.”
Despite the one-sided scoreline, Rose was pleased with his side’s showing, and is already looking forward to Frickley’s next pre-season game at home to Scunthorpe on Tuesday, July 16.
He said: “It gave the lads an idea of what Championship sides are like.
“They kept the ball very well and a couple of their goals were of fantastic quality.
“The positives from our side of it were that we kept our shape very well, we just ran out of steam at the end of both halves.
“We’ve only been back for three training sessions and the fitness told, but by the time we face Scunthorpe we will have everybody back from holiday and it’s very important that we improve.”
