Frickley Athletic will look to move a step closer to Hillsborough tonight with victory over Athersley Recreation in the quarter-finals of the Sheffield and Hallamshire Senior Cup (kick-off 7.45pm).

The Blues are two wins away from a final date at the home of Championship side Sheffield Wednesday as they look to go one step further than last season’s runner-up spot in the competition.

Karl Rose’s men will be favourites to progress thanks to home advantage and the fact they ply their trade three steps higher in the football pyramid.

Athersley are in winning form in Northern Counties East League Division 1, however, currently topping the table, and Rose is well aware of the threat tonight’s visitors will pose as he looks to add some silverware to the Westfield Lane trophy cabinet.

“I think it’s been a while since this club won a trophy,” he said.

“It’ll be tough because Athersley are doing well in their league and they’ll have the winning feeling, but it’s a competition we want to do well in, we’re at home and we have the chance to progress to the semi-finals.”

Admission prices for tonight’s match have been reduced to £5 for adults, £3 for concessions and £2 for under-16s.
