Frickley Athletic boss Karl Rose says the mouthwatering friendly clash with Doncaster Rovers is the perfect way for his side to start pre-season.

The Blues welcome the Championship new boys to Westfield Lane on Tuesday (kick-off 7.30pm) and Paul Dickov is expected to travel with a strong first-team squad for his first game in charge of Rovers.

The match comes just a week after Rose welcomed his men back for pre-season training but cannot wait to lock horns with Football League opposition.

“I’m absolutely delighted we’ve got a game against Doncaster Rovers to look forward to,” he said.

“They’re sending a first team and it’s Paul Dickov’s first game in charge so it will be a good one for both teams.

“It’ll be a learning curve for the players to test themselves against a Championship team and Championship players, to see just where they’re at.

“There’s no pressure on us and it should be a big crowd so it’ll be a good night.

“We don’t have another friendly match for two weeks after that so we can really have a go and enjoy it.”

The Blues enjoyed a great pre-season results-wise 12 months ago but endured a winless start to their season - something Rose is aware of.

“We’ll be able to set the standards down for the new season because we want a good start,” he said.

“We had a great pre-season last summer and didn’t have the best start to the season.”

Rose was due to sign-up a number of players, current and new, for the new campaign on the Blues’ return to training on Tuesday night, and new faces could feature against Rovers.

Defender Jamie McCombe is set to play some part for Rovers on his return to his former club.

Tickets for the match are priced £8 for adults and £4 concessions and will be available on the turnstiles. Frickley are expecting a bumper crowd and are advising supporters to arrive early to avoid congestion at the turnstiles.
