Frickley Athletic have confirmed what looks set to be a mouthwatering pre-season friendly match against Championship newcomers Doncaster Rovers.

Rovers, who were champions of League One last season, are expected to bring their first team to Westfield Lane for a friendly on Tuesday, July 2 (kick-off 7.30pm).

The match will be the Blues’ first friendly of the summer and will be their fourth against Football League opposition.

Barnsley, Scunthorpe United and Sheffield Wednesday will also be sending teams to South Elmsall over the pre-season but Rovers are set to bring the most experienced squad to face Karl Rose’s Evo-Stik Premier League side.

The match could see a return to South Elmsall for defender Jamie McCombe, who started his career as a youngster with the Blues and played a major part in Doncaster’s promotion last term.

It will also be Paul Dickov’s first in charge of Rovers after taking over from Brian Flynn this summer.

Ticket prices will be announced in due course.
