THREE goals in the final nine minutes consigned Frickley Athletic to an Evo-Stik Premier Division defeat at Blyth Spartans on Saturday.

Lee Mason fired Spartans ahead on 37 minutes only for Luke Hinsley to restore parity with a superb strike a minute later.

The Blues enjoyed the better chances as the game wore on, Gavin Allott hitting the post in the second half but the deadlock remained until the closing stages.

The hosts edged ahead when Ryan McGorrigan converted from the spot on 81 minutes before substitute Ryan Airey netted twice in four minutes to give Spartans a 4-1 lead.

Jason Yates hit the target in stoppage time but it was no more than a consolation for Athletic.
