Frickley aim to continue unbeaten start to 2015

Improving Frickley Athletic have their eyes on climbing into the top half of the table after two wins and a draw in their three games so far in 2015 in the Evo-Stik Premier League.

Karl Rose’s men climbed up to 17th place with their first away win in the league since September at Stamford last Saturday and will test their new found confidence in a home game with top 10 side Barwell this Saturday at Westfield Lane (kick-off 3pm).

It will be the first meeting between the two sides this season and the Blues are expecting a tough test from a side that was shaping up as top four contenders and won three straight games in December – scoring nine goals in the process – before a recent downturn in form has seen them lose three and draw one in 2015.

Their draw was a respectable one, however, as it came last Saturday against a Curzon Ashton team that started the day in third place.

After last weekend’s results they stand eight places above Frickley, but the Blues can close the gap to just five points behind them if they can beat them this Saturday.

Importantly Athletic are now 10 points above the relegation zone and are beginning to develop more of a settled side with manager Rose able to pick virtually the same starting line-up for the last two games. He has regular keeper Ben Simpson to come back from injury, but seems to have found the right mix in his team.
