A late winner by Nash Connolly gave Hemsworth MW revenge for a cup defeat by AFC Emley earlier this season when the two teams met again in Division One of the Toolstation NCE League at the MDC Stadium last Saturday.

Wayne Benn’s men lost 4-3 to Emley in the NCE League Cup in August and were given a tough game again before emerging as 2-1 winners.

Sam Jones gave Hemsworth a flying start with a goal after just four minutes, but the visitors’ defence held firm for the remainder of the opening half to go in at the break still just one down.

When Ashley Flynn grabbed an equaliser for Emley on 65 minutes it looked like they would go away with a point, but Connolly had other ideas as he came up with his ninth goal of the season eight minutes from time to seal an important win.

The victory kept Hemsworth in second place in the table with 33 points from their 14 games so far, but with AFC Mansfield winning again they remain four behind the leaders ahead of this Saturday’s game at Rossington Main (kick-off 3pm).

Welfare are also away to Grimsby Borough next Tuesday (kick-off 7.45pm).
