HEMSWORTH’S Scott Askham will get his first shot at a Mixed Martial Arts (MMA) title when he takes to the ring in Batley on Saturday.
The unbeaten 24-year-old will fight David Stone for the vacant UCFC British Middleweight title at the Batley Frontier Club.
A title shot has been in the offing thanks to his superb start in MMA as a professional, winning all five of his bouts.
The latest was against Aureilijus Kerpe in May and Askham is confident he can make it six wins from six this weekend.
“I’m ready to go after my last fight,” he said.
“It’s going to be a tough fight, one of my toughest since turning professional, and it adds something that a title’s on the line as well.”
Askham was due to go up against Andy ‘The Lion Paw’ De-Vent but will he pulled out claiming he wasn’t ready for the fight, something the Hemsworth MMA ace said was “a load of rubbish.”
He’ll now face Stone, from Manchester-based club Frontline MMA, someone who comes into the event on the back of a rapid knock-out in his last fight.
Askham added: “I don’t know that much about David Stone but I’ve seen bits of his fights on the internet.
“He got a 26 second knock-out in his last fight so he’ll be confident coming into this.”
It’ll be the first time Askham, who trains at Matrix MMA in Doncaster, has fought as a professional at the Batley club.
Any remaining tickets, priced at £30 to see a host of MMA professionals from around the world, can be bought by contacting Askham on 07584 250727.
VIP tickets priced at £45 are also available.
