Castleford Tigers have agreed a one-year extension with Tom Holmes, keeping the local youngster at the club for the 2016 season.

Holmes, 19, made his first team Super League debut at home against Catalans Dragons earlier this season after coming through Castleford’s Academy ranks.

The former Lock Lane youngster joined the Tigers Scholarship scheme at 15 and has impressed at every level since. He’s captained Castleford’s under 19s side for the past two seasons.

On signing his new deal, Holmes said: “I am absolutely over the moon, it’s a big weight off my shoulders knowing I’ll be here next year and I really can’t wait.

“Signing here was a no brainer for me really, I love the players, the staff, the fans and this club. It’s a special place to be, it’s my home town club and it’s where I want to be.”

Holmes has impressed Tigers head coach Daryl Powell.

He said: “Tom is developing all the time as a young half-back and hooker.

“He made his debut this year coming off the bench against Catalan and his temperament and ability to take the line on, as well as his toughness as a defender, mark him down as a player who could make an impact in Super League in the future.”

He said: “It’s great to see another Castleford lad commit himself to the club.

“Tom has worked exceptionally hard in all areas of his game to be given this opportunity.

“I am delighted that he will be staying around for at least another year and look forward to seeing him continue to develop.

“Progressing players from Academy to the Super League is necessary for any club to be successful and again the signing of Tom shows the importance that Castleford Tigers place on providing a genuine pathway into the first team environment.”
