Castleford Tigers have started their own radio station to provide commentaries from matches.

Castleford Tigers Radio has been launched after the club has been impressed with the work done over the last two seasons by local community radio station 5 Towns FM and Tiger Talk Radio to bring coverage from home games.

The club became aware recently that Tiger Talk Radio could not afford to continue to operate and that fundraising activities undertaken had failed to raise enough funds for the commentary team to carry on.

But Castleford Tigers and club sponsor Sys Servers have now come to the rescue.

Castleford Tigers Radio is bringing live coverage of all the club’s home and away games for the rest of the Super League 2015 season. The commentary team will be Dave Williams and Harvey Wiles, who currently host the Tiger Talk radio show.

Tigers marketing and media manager Michelle Cooper said: “The launch of Castleford Tigers Radio just in time for the Super 8s games is the first stepping stone in making Castleford Tigers more accessible for our far spread fan base.

“We realise that not everyone can get to the Jungle on game day and we want to help those who can’t to experience the atmosphere and the buzz of match days.

“Looking ahead to next season we’re hoping to enhance Castleford Tigers Radio even more with the introduction of our own chat shows, player interviews and more, all of which will be available free for our fans,

“It’s a fantastic way for our great club to give something back to the amazing community we are proud to be part of.

“We’re extremely grateful to our club sponsors Sys Servers for backing Castleford Tigers Radio both financially and professionally with their expertise.

“It’s an exciting time for the club as we look to grow both on and off the field.”

The Tiger Talk Radio fundraising pot currently stands at £550, but with the club and Sys Servers now funding radio commentary, Tiger Talk Radio have donated this pot back to the club groundsman Stuart Vause to buy new fertilising equipment to ensure the club continues to have one of the best pitches in Super League. Everyone who made a donation is thanked.
