Castleford sign Keighley youngster Goodall

CASTLEFORD Tigers have signed promising youngster Jamel Goodall from Keighley Cougars on a 12 month academy contract.

The utility player has impressed in the Cougars’ reserve grade and made his first team debut in 2016 with Cas reckoning he is a player of huge potential.

Head of youth Pete Riding said: “Jamel is big, quick and strong and I look forward to seeing how he develops in our environment.

“He was first brought to our attention while playing college rugby playing for the Halifax Elite Rugby Academy.”

Gareth Greenwood ,of Halifax Elite Rugby Academy, said: “We are delighted for Jamel, he has worked hard since joining Halifax ERA and made considerable improvements in our environment whilst also playing for Keighley Cougars.

“This is not only a great opportunity for Jamel but sends a clear message to our Academy players who show the same potential and attitude that a pathway into Super League environments is now in place.

“We were happy that Castleford were keen that Jamel finished his education and journey with us as we support him onto his next step.”

The signing is the first since a recent partnership has been arranged by the Tigers and the Halifax Elite Rugby Academy. It is anticipated that this alliance will also provide further opportunities for late developing players and widen the Tigers player and recruitment pool while providing a potential pathway for youngsters on the academy programme into the professional game.
